Parallel Vote Tabulation for NetraNews

Project Overview

The Netra News Election Platform is a large-scale Parallel Vote Tabulation (PVT) system developed to collect, verify, and publish election results at the polling-center level during Bangladesh’s national election coverage. The platform was built in collaboration with Netra News to provide a transparent, structured, and traceable system for real-time election data reporting and analysis.

The development process was carried out under intense timelines, with the final production-ready system being tested only days before launch. Despite the operational pressure, the platform successfully went live on election day, supporting hundreds of external editors and newsroom contributors simultaneously as they updated and verified election data in real time.

Designed to prioritize accuracy and verification over raw speed, the platform processes data from more than 42,000 polling centers, with every submission backed by documented proof before publication. Rather than functioning as a conventional election ticker, the system serves as a verifiable archive of polling-center-level statistics, ensuring transparency and traceability throughout the reporting process.

From a technical perspective, the frontend architecture was optimized to handle extremely high traffic with minimal backend strain. Using Next.js Incremental Static Regeneration (ISR) with on-demand revalidation, the platform was able to efficiently serve millions of requests while maintaining stability during peak traffic periods. Over a 12-hour election window, the system successfully handled approximately 6.7 million edge requests without downtime.

The project required rapid iteration, production-level problem solving, and continuous monitoring throughout launch night. The experience highlighted the importance of scalable frontend architecture, operational reliability under pressure, and the role of engineering in supporting transparent public information systems during critical national events.
